At the rear of the property, walks lead towards a beautiful meadow, so you can step straight into the countryside and enjoy the tranquillity. With its homely atmosphere, beautiful views of Glastonbury Tor, inviting garden and countryside walks on the doorstep, this is a wonderful place to slow down, spend time together and enjoy a relaxing stay. There are many tourist attractions within very easy reach of Street. Glastonbury, with its world renowned Tor, Abbey and the Chalice Well, is just a few minutes away by car, or cycling/walking distance. Wells, with its magnificent Cathedral and Bishop’s Palace, is just 20 minutes distant by car, as is Wookey Hole Caves, where one can easily spend a whole day. Cheddar, with its amazingly scenic gorge and splendid caves, is only a few minutes further, with a scenic drive through the delightful and historic village of Wedmore. About an hour’s drive from Street there is Bath to explore — an elegant city with its world famous Roman Baths — or Bristol, which has attractions too numerous to mention. Taunton is about a 45 minute drive, with the Museum of Somerset located in Taunton Castle, whilst Stonehenge and Avebury can both be visited after a drive of an hour or so. Street is also ideally located for guests to further explore the West Country. The beautiful South coasts of Devon and Dorset can be visited as a day trip, as can the North coast of Devon. There are popular tourist attractions such as Minehead, Exmoor and the Quantock Hills all within similar reach. More locally, for those interested in wildlife, there are numerous Nature Reserves on the Avalon Marshes within easy cycling or driving distance. Ham Wall is about 2 miles away, as is Shapwick Heath. Nearby there are other nature reserves, notably Westhay and Grey Lake. These lowland, wetland Nature Reserves are home to a variety of plants and animals and host a huge diversity of bird life, including a resident population of Bitterns, Marsh Harriers and Great White Egrets. During the late autumn huge flocks of starlings, sometimes millions strong, arrive to overwinter in the area. They roost in amongst the reed beds on the Nature Reserves, and very often put on a magnificent mumuration show as they go down to bed in the evenings’. Other attractions include the Avalon Marshes Centre, situated within walking distance of Shapwick Heath Nature Reserve, and home to Somerset Crafts arts and crafts retail outlet and the Hub Café, both open 10am to 5pm seven days a week. Avalon Archaeological Park is also situated here but is currently only open on Sundays. Somerset is famous for its wide open skies, as the landscape of the levels is very flat, often giving rise to spectacular sunrises and sunsets. This flat nature of the landscape of the levels also makes it an ideal location for cycling, with many opportunities to explore cycle routes like the Bittern Trail (which links Glastonbury to the Avalon Marshes), the Somerset Levels Wetlands Loop, the Strawberry Line or Bridgwater and Taunton canal.
