Description

Summary
We welcome you to stay in our beautiful 18th-century stone cottage nestled in the heart of the historic town of Malmesbury. With stunning views directly onto the 1,000-year-old Abbey ruins and its peaceful cloister garden, this is a truly special place to relax, explore, and soak in centuries of English history!
Space
Set over two floors, the cottage offers a cosy yet spacious open-plan layout. On the ground floor, you’ll find a well-equipped kitchen, a dining area with seating for four, and a comfortable sitting room framed by beautiful stone mullion windows that look directly out onto the Abbey’s ancient stone arch and memorial garden. The kitchen includes everything you need for your stay, with an electric oven, gas hob, fridge/freezer, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, and dryer. Upstairs, the master bedroom features a king-sized bed, chest of drawers, and also offering breathtaking views over the Abbey ruins, the formal garden, and the historic Abbott’s House. The second bedroom offers a comfortable double bed and built-in wardrobe. We also have a fantastic bathroom with a combined bath and shower, basin, and WC. Just a few minutes’ walk from the cottage brings you to the river and the peaceful Conygre Mead nature reserve, a favourite subject of J.M.W. Turner, who once painted the Abbey from the hill above. Malmesbury is the perfect base for exploring Wiltshire, the Georgian city of Bath, and the prettiest towns and villages of the Cotswolds. Despite the cottage’s peaceful setting, you’ll find all of Malmesbury’s charm and amenities right on your doorstep. The High Street, Abbey, cafes, pubs, and local shops are literally seconds away. Abbey House and Gardens are less than a one-minute walk, as are the beautiful Abbey itself and The Whole Hog pub and restaurant. The river walk and Daniel’s Well are just a short four-minute stroll. Whether you’re here for a romantic getaway, a relaxing retreat, or a base to explore the region, St Michael’s Cottage offers a truly memorable stay in one of England’s most enchanting towns.
